AIIM International Conference – The SharePoint Track!

Hello New England!

At last week’s AIIM International conference in Philly, I had the opportunity to participate in the SharePoint conference which was a complimentary track within the overall program.  Unquestionably, the buzz and interest in these sessions were  impressive as presentations typically pretty packed with interested participants.

With the pending release of SharePoint 2010 (end of May and early!), the momentum behind this product continues to explode.  When asked by many as to why SharePoint has become such a runaway success, I happily report back with three specific answers.  First, It’s taken Microsoft 3 times to get it mostly right.  SharePoint 2007 was a turning point.  Second, the product’s ease of use has driven its impressive adoption.  Third, the flexibility and configuration that can be placed in the End Users hands has a profound impact on usage.

To quote my good friend Randy Kahn, “Despite SharePoint’s imperfections, it has become perfect enough to serve as the parking lot of information for most people”.

.  I agree with Mr. Kahn’s assessment in that it is not perfect, but it undoubtedly does a lot and for this and many other reasons, it continues to be a smart investment.

More to come later!
